‘Zoolander 2′ Trailer: A Trip Through Derek’s Brain

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson

It’s been more than a decade since audiences were introduced to the lovable and incredibly dense Derek Zoolander and after many rumors of a “Zoolander” sequel, fans are finally getting a glimpse of what’s to come.

On Sunday, Paramount Pictures released the first teaser trailer for the long awaited sequel to the 2001 film that brought the dim-witted but adored male model into our lives.

At first the trailers seems more like a scientific lecture into the workings of the brain zipping through animations of the neural network of a brain with a Steven Hawking-style voice narrating the whole thing, but then words like “Eugoogly” pop up and a “no left turn” sign followed by a merman and you start to realize you’re not seeing any ordinary brain.

Suddenly, we see Derek Zoolander, played by Ben Stiller, pondering life’s big questions.

“If God exists,” Derek asks, “then why did he make ugly people?”

The film starts off about a decade after the events of the original.

“It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe,” Stiller said of the script. “It’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.”

Aside from starring in the film, Stiller directed, produced and co-wrote the script with Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder).  “Zoolander 2 is scheduled to release on February 12, 2016. Owen Wilson is returning as Hansel and Will Ferrell will make a special appearance as Jacobim Mugatu. The film will also feature Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, Cyrus Arnold, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kyle Mooney, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and more.
