The project will begin shooting in Minaj’s hometown of Queens this winter. Written by Kate Angelo (Sex Tape), the show will center on Minaj’s childhood from her immigration from Trinidad in the early 90s to her eventual rise to fame.
In a statement, Minaj said, “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
ABC Family echoed her Minaj’s excitement, EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke saying, “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Minaj is not the first musician ABC Family has worked with. The network is also working on a drama with Christina Aguilera and on a comedy with music manager Irving Azoff.
