This past weekend showed disappointing numbers at the box office, down about 38% from this time last year. Jack the Giant Slayer, starring Nicholas Hoult debuted at number, but only bringing in $28 million from 3525 screens. Identity Thief came in 2nd, earning $9.7 million in its fourth week. 21 and Over and The Last Exorcism part II also debuted this weekend, filling out spots 3 and 4 respectively.
The box office is seeing some Oscar buzz influence, with improved performance for Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi, and Argo. Silver Linings Playbook made $5.9 million in it’s 16th week, and has made over $115 million domestically.
