The Weinstein Company has released the very first trailer for “The Giver,” based on the novel by Lois Lowry. The story centers on Jonas, who lives in seemingly idea world of contentment, that is until he is chosen as the Receiver of Memories. The Giver passes on the memories to Jonas, who then learns the reality of the world they live in. The film stars Jeff Bridges as the Giver, Brenton Thwaites as Jonas, Meryl Streep as the Chief Elder, Katie Holmes as Jonas’s mother, Alexander Skarsgård as Jonas’s father, and as we reported in September, Taylor Swift as Rosemary, The Giver’s daughter. (Taylor is in the trailer for half a second at the :44 mark. “The Giver” is slated for release in August 2014.

Taylor Swift has been cast in “The Giver,” an adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 novel by the same name. The film, which will be directed by Phil Noyce, follows Jonas, a 12 year old boy, living in a supposedly utopian society. The society, in reality, is more dystopian, and full of lies.

Taylor Swift is joining the cast, which includes Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan, as Rosemary. Rosemary is the last teen mentored by The Giver before he meets Jonas.

The Weinsten Company and Walden Media’s adaptation is set to hit theaters in August 2014.

Who ever expected to see Taylor Swift and Meryl Streep in the same movie?
