The glow of the night started long before any awards were handed out with stars exuding radiance on the red carpet throughout the night.

Metallics were clearly a theme for the night’s leading ladies and they rocked it. Priyanka Chopra, Ruth Negga, and Gina Rodriguez were just a few of the ladies whose metallic looks had us obsessed at first sight. They were simply stunning, commanded attention, and flattered their amazing figures.

We caught up with Paul Norton, the genius behind Gina Rodriguez’s gorgeous mane, and he gave us the 411 on of how to recreate her enviable locks.

“I wanted to create a modern yet vintage look for Gina this evening. Cabaret was my inspiration,” said Norton.

How to get Gina Rodriguez’s hair look:

Prep the hair with Joico Power Whip to add volume and make a deep side part. Use a round to smooth out the hair.

Step2:

Using a 1 inch curling iron curl the hair away from the face making sure to leave the ends out for a modern look. Norton suggest using JoiShape Shaping & Finishing Spray before curling as it gives the a hair a nice hold while still letting it maintain its movement.

Step 3:

Once curls are cooled Norton used KPAK Protect and Shine Serum to finger through the hair to add shine to the hair.

Step 4:

To finish off the look Norton used Joico Power Spray for hold and Joico Gold Dust Shimmer Spray to match to sparkle of Gina’s gorgeous dress.

The People’s Choice Awards are all about celebrating our favorite actors in television and it’s nice for us to get a bit of a say during awards season, but with all the trophies getting thrown around we didn’t want to forget our faves in the fashion and beauty department.

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra exploded onto the scene this year with her breakout hit “Quantico,” capturing American viewers with her stunning looks, and incredible acting chops in her first major US debut. We love her so much, she was awarded a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Actress In A New TV Series. Chopra is the first South Asian actress to ever to win a People’s Choice Award making this win even more of an accolade.

There’s no doubt that Chopra is a breakout star that everyone should be paying attention to both on and off the screen. The actress’ win was well deserved, but what we really noticed how stunning she looked for the evening’s festivities. Since we couldn’t get enough of her look we talked to the genius behind her beautiful locks, celebrity hairstylist Castillo, to get the details on how to recreate the sleek modern updo.

Castillo broke down the look into five easy steps:

Step 1:
Start with damp hair and with a generous amount of Joico’s Heat Set Cream coat the hair from root to ends. Use two golf ball sized amounts of Joiwhip and massage into the roots and the ends of hair. Brush with a wet brush to fully coat each strand and to detangle any hair before you blow dry.

Step 2:
Divide hair into four sections: top, left side, right side, and back. Blow dry hair with a round brush and set. Then brush out each section and spray with Joico’s Iron Clad follow this step with a brush through of the hair again.

Step 3:
With a 1 1/2 inch curling iron take 1 inch sections and curl in alternating directions. Leave each coil loose while cooling off. Repeat until the entire head is done. Once you’ve finished, spray Joico’s Refresh Dry Shampoo at the roots and ends. Then brush out the curls.

Step 4:
Now we will be creating the updo, which Castillo calls the knotted Mohawk updo. You will create 4-5 sections starting from the front of your head going back. Each section will come from both sides of the head and will meet in the middle. Pull a 2 inch section from the opposite side of the head and create a knot by tying the two sections. Pin at the base and at the ends

Step 5:
Continue working your way back and lining up each knot as you go back. It should look like a Mohawk braided updo when you’ve finished. Once you’ve finished make sure to personalize your look by pulling pieces to create a loose carefree vibe or fixing pieces to create a more sleek and chic vibe. Seal in the look for the night with some Joico’s Flip Turn Spray.

While the show celebrated the excellence in this year’s television industry, many of the conversations online turned to the fashion hits and misses on the red carpet. Some of our favorite TV darlings and gents dressed to the nines for the special occasion, but there were some clear red carpet fashion faux pas.

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez who is quickly becoming quite the burgeoning star, was one look of the night that simply dazzled. Gina radiated on the carpet wearing a Lorena Sarbu blush sweetheart neckline gown, Stuart Weitzman heels, accessorized with Forevermark jewelry, and a Judith Leiber clutch. Her simple hair and makeup pulled the look together, adding the perfect touch of elegance.

We were able to chat with Paul Norton, the celebrity hairstylist extraordinaire behind Gina’s look. He shared with us how he achieved her voluminous ponytail. His inspiration came from her gorgeous dress and its sweetheart neckline. Paul says, “I wanted to go for a very polished look on the top but yet very dramatic throughout the ponytail.”

How to get Gina Rodriguez’s hair look:

Step 1:
Paul started the process by washing Gina’s hair with Joico Color Infuse Brown Shampoo and Conditioner to richen up her dark tresses.

Step 2:
He then blew out her hair until fully dry, using a Mason Pearson brush only at the roots to give a wilder effect at the ends.

Step 3:
Once the hair was fully dry Paul applied Joico K-PAK Protect and Shine Serum at the roots and gathered the hair into a low ponytail with an elastic band. To ensure that the elastic band was unseen, he wrapped it with a strand of Gina’s own hair to conceal it, secured with bobby pins.

Step 4:
Paul then placed hot rollers in her ponied hair for 15 minutes. Once cooled he removed the rollers gently while combing the hair through with his fingers to work out the curls. Using Joico Hair Shake throughout the ponytail working in sections from the bottom up, Paul created volume. To create more separation and texture, the hair was back combed in sections with his fingers.

Step 5:
Lastly, he had Gina tilt her head back allowing the pony tail to hang freely while he used Joico Flip Turn hair spray to ensure the volume and separation would last all night long. Paul used a final spray of Flip Turn to take care of any fly aways.
