“Princess Diaries 3″ could soon be making its way into production.
Shut up! “I beg your pardon, ‘Shut up?'” If that quote makes no sense to you, go back to 2001 when dorky Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) found out she was the princess of Genovia in “The Princess Diaries.”
Gary Marshall, director of the first two “Princess Diaries” films, leaked the news to People magazine.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do ‘Princess Diaries 3′ in Manhattan.” As for when exactly this might happen, Gary added, “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
There are also other holdups keeping the project from moving forward, like the fact that Disney hasn’t officially asked Marshall and Hathaway to make the movie. So maybe Marshall’s comments aren’t exactly a confirmation, but at least there’s some solid hope!
No word if Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews) or Joe (Héctor Elizondo) share the same desire to return to the series, based on the books by Meg Cabot. But one other person seems to be open to the idea — Chris Pine, who starred as Mia’s love interest Nicholas Devereaux in the 2004 sequel, “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.” When a fan asked on an Entertainment Weekly Tumblr chat if he prayed for another Princess Diaries film, Chris responded, “Have you been reading my diary???”
So we have two and a half out of five important players saying yes… come on Disney, let’s make it official!
