AJ McLean Confirms Backstreet Boy and Spice Girls Tour Is In Talks

Be still, my beating fan girl heart! AJ McLean has single handedly excited 90s girls everywhere with a simple possibility.

While promoting his latest solo single “Live Together,” AJ revealed to Rolling Stone that the Backstreet Boys will be back in the studio soon to ideally have their next album out by May. When asked about rumors of a possible tour with the Spice Girls next year to promote said album, AJ admitted, “The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about.”

Talking about the ever growing Spice Girls reunion rumors, Mel Brown said on The Meredith Vieira Show last month that, “There’s nothing to really spill because nothing has been announced, nothing’s official. I mean, yes, we are in talks because it’s our 20th anniversary. And I want something to happen. I’m forcing them a little bit, but yeah. I’ve been saying it for five years, ‘We are reuniting. We are, aren’t we?’”

While next year marks 20 years since the release of Spice Girls’ “Spice,” it coincidentally also marks 20 years since the release of the Backstreet Boys’ self titled debut album. I think it’s safe to say that a joint tour would be a little timely. Nick Carter credits himself for the idea, telling E!, “I actually did a little Twitter shout-out to Mel B because we’re friends and I said, ‘Hey this could be a cool idea. What if we did a Backstreet Boys-Spice Girls tour?'”

He added, “And there were talks in the past about it and we had done the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys tour in the past. I think this would be that last hurrah—the two big groups from the late ‘90s. Maybe do a world tour, stadiums, stuff like that and do a package together. It’s just an idea.”

A great idea, Nick! One that fans have been reacting very passionately about:

Would you go see a joint BSB/Spice Girls show?
